The oldest surviving consulate building in Japan.
Designed by a British architectural engineer, the two-story brick building was completed in 1906.
After World War II, it was used as the Shimonoseki Police Station and Shimonoseki City Archaeological Museum from 1954, and is now used as a memorial hall, civic gallery, and other public facilities.
Designated as a National Important Cultural Property.
