Tokiwa Park is a comprehensive leisure land that stretches around Lake Tokiwa and boasts an expansive area of 189 hectares (about 40 times the size of Tokyo Dome).
The park is decorated with 3,500 cherry trees in spring, 80,000 irises, azaleas, and hydrangeas in early summer, chrysanthemums in fall, and an illumination event every winter, adding color to the park throughout the four seasons.
There are more than 90 outdoor sculptures on permanent display throughout the park.
Birds such as pelicans, the symbol of the park, are kept at Lake Tokiwa.
A zoo and an amusement park are also attached to the park, providing fun for both children and adults.
It is registered as a national monument and was selected as No. 1 in the comprehensive park category of NHK’s “Japanese Landscapes to Leave for the 21st Century,” as well as one of the 100 best city parks in Japan, one of the 100 best cherry blossom viewing spots in Japan, and one of the 500 most beautiful roads in Japan to walk.
